Located amidst the slopes of the Margalla Hills in Islamabad is a quaint village that stands out for its natural charm and beauty. This is where Saidpur Village built by Mughals transform into an amazing retreat full of art, cuisine and historical mesh.
The village has seen many famous civilizations including Gandhara, Greek, Buddhist, Mughal, Ashoka and the colonial periods, continues to attract visitors in large numbers.
Remodelled in 2006 by the Capital
Development Authority, Saidpur Village provides the visitors glimpses of
multi-cultural heritage. The key changes that have come about include the
re-doing of a temple, the cleaning up of a stream running through the village
and giving the mud houses a facelift. The village reflects the traditional
ambience; the temple, the stones used on the walls, the stacks of hay, the
horse-drawn carts and everything else depicts the history of Potohar region.
A treat to the eye, the Village offers interesting mix of restaurants, art
galleries and antiques showrooms that visitors can soak in. What captures ones’
eye in Saidpur village, apart from the many restaurants, is the sight of three
buildings standing closely together: a Mandir, a Church and a Gurdwara. A
visit to Hindu temples and Gurdwara provides information about Hindu and Sikh
culture.
To reach there, visitors can drive down the Margalla Avenue towards Saidpur.
