A well-reputed figure of Pakistan media industry, following his father’s legacy, Usman Pirzada has been associated with the industry for more three decades now. He has been a prominent actor in the television and film industry of Pakistan. Pirzada has also worked as director and producer.

Usman was born in a Muslim family and grew up in Lahore in 1950’s. Having studied from St. Anthony’s High School, he graduated and completed his Masters in English in 1974 from Government College University. Since childhood he was brought up in the theatrical environment. Faiz Ahmed Faiz, a great poet was a frequent visitor to his home.

He started his career from his college in 1974 in different plays and dramatic festivals. And then in 1975 he got an offer for the lead role in a Pakistani English language film Beyond the Last Mountain. Usman, who joined the film industry in the 1970s, has had an illustrious career. He wrote, directed and produced Nazdikiyan, which was one of the lowest budget films ever to have won a great number of national film awards. In 1989, he penned, directed and produced Gori Diyan Jhanjran, which also won multiple national awards. In 1976, he started a joint venture with Sri Lanka and made a movie called ‘Sazish’, while his film ‘Seeta Devi’ was a co-production with Sri Lanka, France and Italy. Three years later, he produced, directed and wrote the script for the movie ‘Gori Dyan Jhanjran’ (1989), which was an immensely successful movie, winning 6 National Awards for the year. In 1995, he created, directed and wrote the script for the popular drama serial ‘Sophia’, in which his wife Samina Peerzada played the title role. He then returned to the silver screen directing and writing one of the most successful movies of Pakistani history, ‘Karz’ (1997). In the same year, he produced the movie ‘Zargul’ starring Faryal Gauhar. The movie achieved international acclaim at a number of international film festivals. As an actor, his famous dramas include ‘Karb’, ‘Teesra Kinara’, ‘Mr. and Mrs.’ and ‘Ishq Ki Inteha’.
In his personal life he is now living a harmonious life with his wife and a veteran actor Samina Pirzada and two daughters. With outstanding artistic skills, the couple made independently their positions in the film and television industry.
